Dessau and Leipzig Thoughts

Dessau we only spent a few hours in but I liked it, it was very different than Berlin. Dessau is comparable in size of Eau Claire so I guess that is something that fascinated me about the city, how small it was. Leipzig is smaller than Berlin but bigger than Dessau. Something I was fascinated with in Leipzig was how much the city was trying to de-urbanize itself. They were trying to promote other forms of transportation instead of driving cars all over. I thought that was a good idea because it promotes the use of public transportation and walking.

My favorite academic experience between these two cities would be in Leipzig when my group gave our music preview about Bach and the St. Thomas church. I would say this is my favorite because one, I am not a big classical music fan at all so at first I was not looking forward to researching this topic but the assignment forced me to learn a lot about it. Two, I love looking at the European churches, they are all so beautiful!

My favorite extra-curricular activity would be just exploring the city and seeing as much as we could. It was very weird not having as much time in these cities compared to how long we stayed in Berlin so I recommend to just go explore and not waste time in the hostel. I wandered around with some students and saw as much as we could, we also found a very good local gelato cafĂ©! It pays to wander off! J

Something I would recommend for meals would be to go to the local grocery store and get snacks for the stay in the hostel and for the train rides. These last few days we traveled and we will be for the next few but having handy snacks with us helped out a lot! Another student and I went to grocery stores a lot for meals because it is so cheap, we could get fresh fruit and other things we liked without paying a lot!

Group presentation!

Beautiful Church! Love the old buildings!

The church on the map! Right next to the Bach museum we visited!

Pretty art on the side of the building we found while wandering around!
